Kim, thank you for granting us this interview. Congratulations on your book Starr Fall, which is book 1 of the Starr Fall series.
  1. Please tell us something unique about you that we can’t learn from your bio.
I’m a covert book reader. Ever since I was eight years old and started reading chapter books, I’ve snuck reading into my day. After bedtime, it was the hallway light. During my school years, it was Math class. Lifeguarding, I’d read on my breaks and the second the patrons stepped out of the water. During college, I worked in the woods as an intern with the local Department of Forestry office. I’d rush through my assigned task for the day (sometimes running) just so I could spend the rest of my time lounging under a tree to read or write.
  2. What’s the strangest thing you’ve learned while researching a book?
I often wonder as I Google topics such as “the effects of chloroform” or “how to hotwire a car” or “where can a person get shot without causing any internal injuries” if my name pops up on some CIA/FBI/Homeland Security Watch List as “Writer: Completely Harmless but Possesses an Overactive Imagination. Threat: Benign.” It makes me giggle.
To answer your question, I found out that contrary to Hollywood, chloroform on a rag is often lethal or will cause vomiting, brain damage, or a variety of other side effects. A victim doesn’t just wake up and try to fight back.
  3. What’s your inspiration for writing the Starr Fall series?
The inspiration for Starr Fall came in the form of a dream. I’m always chased by bad guys when I sleep—I blame an overactive imagination combined with consuming one too many action and adventure movies. One night I woke up in a cold sweat. A secret organization wanted me as an assassin. Me? No one wants to read about me, but Starr Bishop? That’s a character readers can get behind. I added Christian, because who doesn’t need some kissing and a dreamy hero in their life?
  4. Tell us more about Starr Bishop. She sounds like one intriguing teen.
In the beginning, Starr appears to be the classic, seventeen-year-old overachiever. She’s the type of person you want to hate because she’s together and you’re a hot mess, but she’s really nice, so you can’t hate her. When the Organization selects her as an assassin, she has two choices: become an assassin or disappear. While she’s in hiding, she meets Christian and she’s immediately attracted to him but she has no idea what to do about it. He wants to be her hero, but she’s not a damsel in distress. She’s a kickass heroine for our times.
  5. What about Christian Evergood? Why does he pretend to be a Goth loner?
Christian reveals to Starr that his parents died the year before he moved to Webster. He gave up the life of star athlete and prodigal son of “do good” parents after their funeral. When he moved in with his aunt, he decided he was no longer going to help people, thus the black clothing, black eye liner, combat books, and scowling disposition. When Starr goes missing, everything changes. He wants to be her hero and keep her safe. He tries to make her forget the Organization is after her, but no one controls Starr.
  6. What is this “Organization”? How did Starr become their top recruit?
The Organization led by General Treadwell remains vague in Starr Fall, Book One. The only thing Starr really knows about the Organization (and the reader) is that Treadwell wants her as an assassin because she demonstrates all the qualities an assassin should possess—intelligence, strong leadership skills, athletic prowess in both swimming and running, and a drive to be the best. Unfortunately for the Organization, they did not take into consideration her stubbornness, her ability to adapt to new situations, or her loyalty to her friends. That was their first mistake.
  7. What’s up next in the Starr Fall series?
So much!! Starr Lost, Book Two of the Starr Fall series released in January 2017. While on the run from the Organization, Starr and Christian find safety on the Qualla Boundary with their friends, Ben and Coda, but Starr needs answers. She owes her dear dead friends that much. Starr Gone, Book Three of the Starr Fall series releases Saturday, June 3rd, 2017. You never know who your true friends are until a gun’s pointed at you. One will take a bullet, and the other will pull the trigger.
I planned on waiting until the summer to start Starr Found, Book Four of the Starr Fall series, but Starr’s got a mind of her own. She insisted on a session the other day, and Starr gets what she wants.
Thank you very much for your time and we wish you more success.

On the run from the Organization, Starr never planned on falling in love.
Starr Bishop’s the complete package. A perfect smile, brains to match, and a winning attitude. Boys want to date her and girls want to be her. She’s the type of girl you want to hate, if only she wasn’t so damn likable. But don’t worry, she’s not interested in your boyfriend. Boys are one complication she can live without.
When the Organization decides she’s not only the model student but the ideal assassin, Starr’ll need a lot more than high test scores and extracurricular involvement to get herself out of that commitment.
Dark, moody, and dead sexy Christian Evergood is the last person she’d expect—or even want— to come to her rescue. From opposite ends of Webster High’s social hierarchy, their lives collide in one electrifying moment. Christian isn’t the Goth loner he pretends to be, he’s a part Cherokee, All-American boy who wants to be a hero, Starr’s hero. Christian makes Starr forget that the Organization is after her, but nothing will stop the Organization from collecting their top recruit.
By the way, the spot for junior class president just became available.
Abandon whatever you are doing and read this book! I truly enjoyed it. It’s such a quick paced book. You could easily read five or six chapters without realizing how much time has passed! The ending left me wanting more!

About Kim Briggs

Author Pic

Kim Briggs once smashed into a tree while skiing. The accident led to a concussion, a cracked sternum, temporary notoriety as a sixth grader returned from the dead, and the realization that fictionalized accounts are way more interesting than just slipping on the ice.
An unhealthy obsession with conspiracy theories combined with a love of travel and happily ever afters led Kim to write her YA novel, Starr Fall, where a secret organization decides 17-year-old Starr Bishop is not only the model student, but the ideal assassin. While in hiding, Starr meets dark, moody, and dead sexy Christian Evergood. Cue the swoon worthy music. But it’s not all happily ever afters for Kim. Her NA novel, And Then He, explores the dark and scary corners of the human psyche. Following a night of innocent flirting with a handsome stranger, Tiffani finds herself in the midst of a nightmare she can’t escape. And Then He is available through Amazon and other major book retailers. Starr Fall released November 2016 with Inkspell Publishing, followed by Starr Lost in January 2017 and Starr Gone in June 2017. Her novella, Avalanche is part of the Valentine Kisses Anthology and released February 14, 2017.
When she’s not doing something writerly, Kim can be found jumping into snowdrifts with her three kids, husband, and dog. She’s careful to avoid trees.
